The faculty of the Department of Bioinformatics and Biostatistics are committed to providing high quality education in biostatistics to our students as well as students from other programs. Our commitment to education has been recognized by the University of Louisville with several Faculty Favorites awards and the Provost Award for Exemplary Advising.
Graduate Degrees
Master of Science (MS) in Biostatistics - Our master's program can be completed face-to-face or fully online and focuses on industrial placement after graduation. Students also have the option of completing a thesis, an option typically selected by students interested in eventually pursuing a doctoral degree.
Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Biostatistics - Our Ph.D. curriculum gives students a rigorous introduction to biostatistical research methods while offering flexibility in research specialization.
Certificate Program
Certificate in Biostatistics - The 15-credit hour Certificate in Biostatistics provides core biostatistics instruction targeted to individuals in business and industry seeking to enhance their data analytic and evidence-based decision making skills. The Certificate also provides an excellent lead-in to the MS in Biostatistics degree.
We are now accepting applications for our 15 credit-hour, fully online Certificate in Biostatistics.
Affiliated Graduate Programs
Master of Public Health (MPH) – A concentration in biostatistics is available to students seeking the professional MPH degree of the School of Public Health and Information Sciences.
Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Clinical Investigation Sciences - This program provides advanced instruction in clinical research to healthcare professionals.
Dual Degree Program – This dual degree program is a joint effort with the Department of Mathematics. Students in the dual degree program receive a M.S. in Biostatistics and a Ph.D. in Applied and Industrial Mathematics.
Interdisciplinary Studies Ph.D., Bioinformatics Concentration – The interdisciplinary Ph.D. in bioinformatics involves coursework in biology, chemistry, computational sciences, biostatistics, and other fields.
Collaborative Degree Programs
Students in collaborative degree programs at universities with which UofL has an affiliation agreement complete a Bachelor's degree at their home institution and a Master's degree in Biostatistics from UofL. These joint programs offer a competitive advantage in which students can earn both their bachelor's and Master's degrees within 5 years of their undergraduate enrollment.
