Dr. Jonathan Kopechek awarded the Scientist Development Grant from the American Heart Association

Dr. Kopechek was recently awarded the Scientist Development Grant for his grant "Ultrasound-Targeted Delivery of miRNA Theraputics for Cardiac Repare after Myocardial Infarction" from the American Heart Association for $210,000.  His project is slated for three years.

The overall goal of this project is to evaluate whether targeted delivery of miRNA therapeutics to the heart using ultrasound and microbubbles can suppress pathological ventricular remodeling and promote cardiac repair following myocardial infarction. They will perform in vitro and in vivo studies to assess the efficacy of this treatment, including studies in mice with surgically-induced myocardial infarction. This project may lead to the development of new clinical treatments with significant impact on patients with myocardial infarctions.
