Digital Photo Contest Sample Photos with HeaderCall for Entries

Louisville Water Company (LWC) and Metropolitan Sewer District (MSD) are teaming up with J.B. Speed School of Engineering to announce a digital photo contest for students to be held in conjunction with the Festival of Faiths events in Louisville.

This year's festival theme "Sacred Water: Sustaining Water" was a natural tie to bind LWC, MSD with the educational outreach efforts of Speed School.

"Water is a precious resource, not only for us, but for citizens of the globe," said Joe Hagerty, Speed School Professor of Civil Engineering.

Eligibility: Students grades 1 through 12 from either public or private schools in Jefferson, Oldham, Henry, Spencer, Bullitt, Hardin, Shelby, Nelson, and Meade Counties in Kentucky are invited to submit photos in one of three categories: Grades 1 - 5, Grades 6 - 8, or Grades 9 - 12.

Topic: The power of water in our daily life.

Criteria: Submissions will be evaluated based on composition, creativity, adherence to the theme, and artistic expression.

Specifications: Photos must be either black and white or color, 300 dpi, 8" x 10" (2400 pixels x 3000 pixels), and jpg format.

All entries must be original works created solely by the entrant and by entering, entrant warrants that such entries are their own original works with full copyright owned by the entrant and no other person or entity. No entries will be accepted or valid for this competition if they are joint works comprised of works from multiple photographers or artists.

Entries limited to one black and white, and one color photo per student.

Deadline: Entries must be submitted online by midnight, Sunday, October 18, 2009. No late entries will be accepted. Entry is closed. Winners will be announced on Monday, Oct. 31, 2011.

Judging: Submissions will be judged by a local panel of artists, civic leaders, and Festival of Faiths committee members. All decisions are final.

Prizes: Three winners will be selected for each of the three categories. First prize winners will receive $300, second place winners will receive $200, and third place winners will receive $100.

Winning entries will be displayed during the Festival of Faiths program at the Henry Clay Building, 604 South Third Street, Louisville, KY, from November 5 through November 14, 2009. Prizes will be presented at a special event during the festival at a time to be announced.

Photographer’s Rights:  By entering the contest, each student photographer hereby grants to the Festival of Faiths digital photo contest committee, a
nonexclusive, worldwide, irrevocable, royalty-free license to reproduce, distribute, publicly display and publish the photographs submitted to the Digital Photo Contest Committee, and the right to use the photographer’s name, grade and school in promotions and other publications.
