Nihat Altiparmak

Dr. Nihat Altiparmak is an Assistant Professor of Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering, University of Louisville. He earned his B.S. degree in Computer Engineering from Bilkent University, Ankara, Turkey in 2007, his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2012 and 2013 respectively. He received 2012-2013 College of Science Outstanding Research Award during his graduate studies at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He joined the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Louisville in 2013.

Research Interests/Activities

Dr. Altiparmak's research interests lie in the area of systems, specifically focusing on storage systems, distributed systems, and networking. In particular, he investigates efficient storage and retrieval strategies for large datasets using multi-disk distributed and heterogeneous storage architectures. Besides the storage and management of Big Data, he is also interested in network security and localization problems in wireless sensor networks. His publications appeared in prestigious international journals including IEEE Transactions on Computers, IEEE Transactions on Parallel and Distributed Systems, ACM Transactions on Storage, and ACM Transactions on Sensor Networks.
