Industrial Engineering Department selects recipient of Professional Award in Engineering

Dave Sharp

The Department of Industrial Engineering has selected Dave Sharp to receive the 2012 Professional Award in Engineering. The award will be presented at the Homecoming Reunion Dinner October 19.

Dave Sharp, Speed ’80 graduate in Industrial Engineering, has had a wonderful 30-year career path of increasingly responsible positions, in a large part due to the excellent foundation he received from his professors and staff at the Speed Scientific School, now known as J.B. Speed School of Engineering

As Director of Operations for Wolverine Worldwide’s Louisville Distribution Center, he heads up a state-of-the-art, highly automated, DC team and is responsible for all USA distribution of Sperry TopSider, Saucony, and Keds brand footwear and apparel.

Equally as important to Mr. Sharp, is the development of young engineers/leaders, and he has encouraged this development by volunteering his service and team for most of the last ten years working with Dr. Alexander’s Capstone Project student teams.

His focus on “taking people with you,”  David Novak’s philosophy of constantly developing and helping young people, is a definite priority in his personal and professional life and he looks forward to continuing that philosophy in developing his teams and the Industrial Engineering Dept’s future Capstone students.

Mr. Sharp is also active in the Council of Logistics Mgmt. and in local clubs and organizations such as KY Mountain Bike Association, Louisville Hiking Club, Saucony Run for Good, local motorcycle and watercraft clubs, Big Brothers/Sisters, animal shelter, and lots of local charities. His proudest accomplishment is his 24-year-old daughter, Mallory.

The Professional Award in Engineering is the Industrial Engineering Department's highest alumni award. It recognizes significant technical achievement over the course of a career and/or extraordinary service contributions to the engineering profession.
