About the ECE Department

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Electrical Engineering, the Master of Engineering (M.Eng.) degree with specialization in Electrical Engineering, the Master of Science (M.S.) in Electrical Engineering, and the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering.

The Master of Engineering degree program is offered principally on a daytime basis and consists of a five-year integrated sequence of academic course work, cooperative internships, a team-based capstone design experience in the undergraduate portion of the program, and an individualized project or research investigation in the fifth year of the program. The Master of Engineering is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org.  The Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering, awarded after completion of the first four years of the program, is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET, http://www.abet.org and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) http://www.sacscoc.org.  Inquiries regarding the B.S. and M.Eng. in Electrical Engineering may be sent to the ECE Department Academic Advisor, Ms. Jane L. Tanner (jltann01@louisville.edu), 502-852-7517.

Another master's degree program, offered through the Graduate School, leads to the Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Electrical Engineering. This program is also available to persons who have an adequate background in mathematics, physics, and the use of computers, but lack a baccalaureate degree in engineering. Persons having an accredited baccalaureate degree in Electrical Engineering from another institution, but who have no relevant work experience, may also find the Master of Science degree program more appropriate. The Master of Science degree program is not accredited by the EAC of ABET. Students interested in the Master of Science degree program should consult the Graduate School Catalog or the Director of Graduate Studies of the ECE Department.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering offers the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering through the Graduate School. Students interested in the EE Ph.D. program should consult the Graduate School catalog or the Office of the Director of Graduate Studies of the ECE Department.  Inquiries regarding the M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering may be sent to the ECE Graduate Program Secretary, Ms. Lisa L. Bell (llbell02@louisville.edu), 502-852-6289.

The Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering and the Department of Computer Engineering and Computer Science jointly offer the Ph.D. degree in Computer Science and Engineering through the Graduate School. Students interested in the Ph.D. program should consult the Graduate School, the CSE Program Coordinator, or the Chair of either department.
