Students from the CEE Department are becoming a powerhouse in building bridges. The student-led team qualified for the national steel bridge competition for the first time in school history, and competed for the national title at Clemson University in May.  For more information about the University of Louisville Steel Bridge team, please click here.

The mission of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is to provide the highest quality instruction, research, and service in support of the mission of the University of Louisville.  Regarding instruction, the intent is to educate students in a professional engineering school context and prepare students for a productive life-long career in the engineering profession.   Second, the intent is to conduct research relevant to the environment and infrastructure.   Last, the intent of service is to be useful to the University, the community, the Commonwealth, and the profession.  Overall, our intent is to provide an educational experience that prepares graduates for the challenges they will face during their professional careers.

Civil engineers often work jointly with architects, urban planners, economists, biologists, and geologists, applying the latest technology in computer-aided design, geographic information systems, construction, project scheduling, cost control and management, and simulation modeling.

spotlight 3   Planning a Future as a Civil Engineer
The civil and environmental engineering curriculum is an integrated five-year program, with a cooperative education component, culminating in a Master of Engineering degree. The M. Eng. degree is accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABET.
