Research Interests:

My laboratory uses engineering approaches and micro/nano- scale technologies to address a host of problems in biology and medicine. We focus on translational research to ensure that technologies developed in our laboratory find practical application in the research or clinical setting. Current research projects target a diverse range of applications ranging from molecular analysis to in vitro cell culture models and can be broadly classified into three focus areas:

(A) Physiologically relevant models of cardiac and vascular tissue

(B) Microfluidic cell separations

(C) Nanotechnology based approaches to study sub-cellular signaling

Awards:

  • National Science Foundation CAREER Award, 2012

  • Center for Environmental Genomics and Integrative Biology, Early Career Award, 2010

  • Wallace H. Coulter Foundation Early Career Award for Translational Research in Biomedical Engineering 2006

  • Postdoctoral Fellowship, Center for Engineering in Medicine, Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School and Shriners Burns Hospital, Boston, MA

  • Graduate Student Research Fellowship, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science, University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI

  • Best Outgoing Student, Class of 1998, Mechanical Engineering, PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, India
