Minor degree requirements
The Department of Sociology offers four different minors in sociology, each requiring completion of 21 credit hours in sociology.
The minor in sociology requires completion of SOC 201 Intro to Sociology-SB, SOC 301 Intro to Social Statistics, SOC 303 Intro to Research Methods-WR, SOC 320 Social Theory-WR, and SOC 323 Diversity & Inequality, along with two electives (one 3-credit hour sociology elective at the 300+ level, and one 3-credit hour sociology elective at any level).
The minor in diversity and inequality requires completion of SOC 201 Intro to Sociology-SB, SOC 320 Social Theory-WR, and SOC 323 Diversity & Inequality, along with two courses from a pool of 300-level electives and two courses from a pool of 400-level elective.
The minor in health, medicine and well-being requires completion of SOC 201 Intro to Sociology-SB, SOC 320 Social Theory-WR, and SOC 323 Diversity & Inequality, along with one course each from two pools of 300-level electives and two courses from a pool of 400-level electives.
The minor in sociology of culture requires completion of SOC 201 Intro to Sociology-SB, SOC 320 Social Theory-WR, and SOC 323 Diversity & Inequality, along with two courses from a pool of 300-level electives and two courses from a pool of 400-level electives.
Admission to the Minor

Substitutions (for the minor in sociology only)
For the minor in sociology, students may substitute CJ 325, PAS 408, PSYC 302, or SW 426 for SOC 303, and may substitute BSTA 201 (formerly MGMT 201), GEOG 356, JA 326, MATH 109 or 560, PHUN 301, PSYC 301, or SW 204 for SOC 301. Any other substitutions must be approved by Dr. Jonetta Weber in the Department of Sociology. (NOTE: If a student opts to substitute such a course, he/she must take an additional sociology elective at the 300+ level in lieu of the required sociology course. Students may not take two statistics courses and have both count toward their degree.
