Jane Bartonjo

Jane Bartonjo is a PhD candidate in the Department of Anatomical Sciences and Neurobiology at the University of Louisville. Her PhD mentor is Dr. Robert Lundy.

Dr. Lundy and Jane were awarded a KY INBRE electron microscopy voucher in 2020 for their project entitled, “Synaptic organization of amygdala projections to brainstem gustatory nuclei.” While utilizing this award, Jane has mastered all aspects of preparing brain tissue for electron microscopy, including cutting ultrathin sections, staining these sections using post-embedding immunocytochemical techniques, and imaging the stained sections using a Hitachi HT7700 transmission electron microscope.

Shown are images of Jane staining ultrathin sections placed on nickel grids (left), inserting tissue on grids into the electron microscope (middle), and viewing images of the tissue on the electron microscope computer monitors (right).
