Given the increasing diversity of clients seeking mental health care, there is an urgent need to enhance the cultural sensitivity of therapeutic interventions with ethnic and racial minority populations. Together, these two workshops will provide you with the tools needed to successfully incorporate cultural factors into therapy.  Part 1 will provide essential information about the ethnic minority experience and the mental health risks they face. Part 2 will build upon Part 1 by focusing on the proficient application of therapeutic strategies into the ethnic minority experience.

Key topics covered will include: culturally informed assessment; the connection between mental health and discrimination; microaggressions; identifying ethnoracial biases in the therapist; working with race-based stress and trauma; and strategies to enhance the therapeutic alliance. The second part of this workshop will include demonstration and opportunities to discuss cases.
