Vice Provost James Begany has the overall strategic and tactical responsibility for undergraduate recruitment, retention, advising practice, and collaboration with academic unit-based advisors and academic support programs.
This individual directs a staff of about 130 in Admissions, Enrollment Management, REACH (Resources for Academic Achievement - the university-wide academic success resource center), Registrar, Student Financial Aid, and Student Success Center, and works regularly with about 65 professional advisors who report to the deans of the schools and colleges.
James Begany
Jim Begany has 26 years of experience working in fields related to higher education enrollment management. The last fourteen have been at the executive leadership level of comprehensive public universities.
He joined the University of Louisville in October 2016. He served as Vice President for Enrollment Management and Communication for almost 10 years at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) prior to coming to UofL. At IUP he was responsible for the creation of a division focused on student recruitment and communications and oversaw programs that resulted in significant enrollment growth.
In addition to his enrollment management experience, Mr. Begany has executive experience in the areas of financial aid and institutional research. He has also served as an adjunct faculty member, teaching statistics courses for master’s and doctoral level students.
