Administration

Students who specialize in Administration will gain competencies and knowledge in postsecondary organizational contexts and practice areas related to administration, management, and leadership. This specialization includes attention to leadership theory, organization theory, and organizational behavior. It also emphasizes areas of practice and content knowledge, such as the history of higher education, organizational change, organizational improvement, and project management. This specialization will prepare students with deep knowledge and skills related to the practice of higher education administration.

Teaching & Learning

Students who specialize in this concentration will gain competencies and knowledge in instructional design, instructional strategies, and academic advising, as well as theories of learning and pedagogy. This specialization will prepare students with deep knowledge about teaching & learning in higher education and beyond. It is designed to equip students with the tools necessary to understand and support both teaching & learning in both instructional and administrative roles, as well as within and beyond the traditional classroom.

Policy & Equity

Students who specialize in this concentration will gain competencies and knowledge in theories of policy, history of education policy, aspects of equity, as well as the policy making process. This specialization will prepare students with deep knowledge about the role of policy in affecting equity in higher education. This specialization may be of interest to scholar-practitioners who represent postsecondary learners and institutions in policy arenas through positions in colleges and universities; professional organizations, advocacy and lobbying groups, and associations; and local, state, and federal government.

Program Structure

The online graduate degree in higher education administration requires a minimum of 36 credits for completion. Some courses are available in an accelerated format (8-week terms).
