Course Descriptions

    • What can I do with a certificate in Applied Geospatial Technology (AGT)?
Our Graduate Certificate in Applied Geospatial Technology (AGT) can provide various career opportunities in fields such as environmental science, urban planning, agriculture, and more. You will have the knowledge and skills to work as a GIS (Geographic Information Systems) technician, spatial analyst, cartographer, or geospatial analyst. Some roles may involve collecting, managing, and analyzing geographic data to make informed decisions and solve real-world problems.
    • What is the difference between earning an undergraduate certificate or an undergraduate degree?
Earning the AGT certificate requires a shorter time-commitment than a full bachelor's program. Certificate programs often focus on developing specific skills or expertise in a particular area, such as geospatial technology. Alternatively, a bachelor’s degree program provides a broader and more in-depth education on a specific area of interest in addition to general knowledge. The choice between pursuing a certificate program or a bachelor’s degree depends on your career goals, financial considerations, and availability among other factors.
    • What type of skills will I learn in this program?
In this program, you can expect to gain skills in GIS software, spatial analysis, data collection, data visualization, and geospatial database management. These skills will enable you to work with geographic data, create maps, conduct spatial analysis, and solve real-world problems using geospatial technology.
    • What are the admission requirements?
Admission to the Applied Geospatial Technologies Certificate program includes a high school diploma from a regionally accredited institution (GED or equivalent accepted by petition), a minimum high school GPA of 2.5 (on a 4.0 scale), and a composite ACT score of 20 or higher. • Will any of my credit hours transfer into a bachelor’s program?
All credits earned in this program can be applied toward a bachelor’s degree from the Department of Geography and Geosciences at the University of Louisville. Please contact us for more information.
    • Is there financial aid available?
Currently we do not offer financial aid for this program. Please see our Financial Aid for more information.
