Research Minute - prehabilitation helps those scheduled for knee replacement surgery

Patients with severe knee arthritis who are scheduled for knee replacement surgery have seen a 10 percent increase in extension strength in the leg scheduled for surgery after participating in a prehabilitation exercise program designed by UofL researchers.

They exercised three times per week four to eight weeks before knee replacement surgery. Testing one week before surgery shows they are better able to climb stairs or get up from a chair.
