2025 Guggenheim Fellowship
Dr. Krzysztof Wołek, a member of the composition faculty at the School of Music, was one of four composers awarded a prestigious 2025 Guggenheim Fellowship. As part of his award, Krzysztof will be creating a new composition titled Bonds and Unions. The 20-minute work will be scored for a 15-piece ensemble with electronics and video.
Bonds and Unions will reflect on the theme of unity through labor and its broader implications. By examining the bond between workers and their tools and extending this connection to their interactions within a professional environment, Bonds and Unions will underscore the political and social significance of collective organization and solidarity. From the conceptual point of view, the piece will follow in the footsteps of composers such as Luigi Nono, Louis Andriessen and Phill Niblock while musically exploring his own compositional language and technique.
Krzysztof's new album, Zero Gained, was recently released on streaming service and is available on bandcamp.
