Michael Detmer

Michael Detmer, MME, MT-BC (NICU-MT) is a music therapist and adjunct faculty member at University of Louisville and Norton Women’s and Children’s Hospital. He holds a Bachelor of Music Education in Choral Music and Voice with a second major in Music Theatre from Illinois State University and a Master of Music Education in Music Therapy from The University of Kansas. Michael is actively engaged in experimental music therapy research with a special focus on neonatal abstinence syndrome and neurodevelopment of neonates, and intergenerational music therapy. Michael presents nationally and internationally to music therapy and medical audiences. He regularly teaches for the National Institute for Infant & Child Medical Music Therapy through Florida State University and is a collaborator in the international Music Therapy Children’s Advocacy and Neurodevelopment Network, a consortium of specialized music therapy experts and researchers. In addition to his passion for teaching, researching, and providing clinical services, Michael is an avid singer, dancer, and actor. He has performed across the US in over 25 professional regional and touring theatre productions and is currently active in the Louisville theatre community.
