Thank you for your interest in the Visiting Student Program at the University of Louisville, School of Medicine. The School of Medicine receives many requests and inquires for clinical rotations. We strive to maintain a rich diverse international visiting student program and hold multiple affiliations with institutions globally. Although we cannot guarantee placement, please know that we will do all we can to support your clinical request should we be able to approve your application and match your dates with an open elective.

The University of Louisville accepts a limited number of foreign medical students into clinical electives during each academic year to complete an educational, engaging, challenging, and learning experience in your medical education.

The University of Louisville School of Medicine uses OVISTA (Online Visiting International Student Applications) to process all International visiting student applications. You must be in your final year of medical school when you arrive for your elective. Electives are four-weeks in duration with a maximum of eight-weeks unless otherwise approved by the Office of Medical Student Affairs. Applications are accepted year-round except for the month of June. Due to the amount of applications and inquires received each year, we have a nomination program in place at most affiliated institutions. Please review the Affiliated Institution link to see if your school has partnered with the University of Louisville. Any application that is submitted from non-affiliated institutions will not be reviewed unless prior approval was received by the Medical Student Affairs Office prior to application.

We look forward to processing your application and having you as a guest student. Please email us at medstuaf@louisville.edu with any questions regarding our clinical elective program or the application process.
