Josiah Henson is believed to have inspired the title character in Harriet Beecher Stowe’s "Uncle Tom’s Cabin." A new documentary about his life will be shared in a 40-minute preview on Friday, June 1 at the Kentucky Center for African American Heritage. Author and director Jared Brock, will be on hand to discuss the film and Henson following the screening.
"Josiah: The story that sparked the Civil War" traces Henson’s harrowing life from slavery in Maryland and Kentucky to freedom in Canada, where he founded a community of escaped slaves.
The screening is cosponsored by the UofL HSC Office of Diversity and Inclusion.
