About the Special Procedures Laboratory:

The Special Procedures Laboratory (SPL) is a specialty consulting lab that performs immunohistochemistry (IHC) and other highly specialized stains on both formalin-fixed paraffin embedded (FFPE) and frozen tissues, as well as handling and processing of other esoteric anatomic pathology specimens, such as fresh muscle and nerve biopsies. The SPL has proven expertise in performing numerous histochemical and special stains (IHC, ISH, IF).

The SPL is recognized for its diagnostic accuracy and acclaimed for its extensive offering of testing capabilities which include:

  • Immunohistochemistry (over 170 antibodies)
  • In-situ hybridization (EBER, kappa and lambda)
  • Nerve biopsy (fresh) (specimen collection protocol)
  • Muscle biopsy (fresh) (specimen collection protocol)
  • Special stains for organisms and neurological diseases
  • Enzyme histochemistry (muscle)
  • IHC for micro-organisms
  • Dual Staining (IHC) capabilities
  • Research on human and animal tissue
