Tell us about yourself!
I am an Italian born in Brazil, which is where I did my first years of medical training My Medicine alma-mater is Universidade Positivo, in the city of Curitiba. I was also trained in Neurology (through Residency there) in the same city and practiced there for 3 years before deciding to expand my horizons and train here in the US. Outside of Medicine I really enjoy getting to know different languages and cultures, having family and friends living across the globe. I’m fascinated by anthropology, linguistics, and how humanity evolves.
My latest hobby is photography, which allows me to capture instants and delve into a specific moment in time. I really appreciate the opportunity to be here in Louisville and was amazed at how welcomed I was, this lovely city that now is home to my son, husband, me, and our dog.
Why did you choose Neurology?
Neurology was the reason why I decided to study Medicine. This decision, of course, was made while I was only a teenager and unaware of the many intricate details of this specific choice. I was an avid reader of everything I could lay my hands on at that time that involved brains, human decisions, cognition.
However, throughout medical school, I was also enchanted by the more general aspects of Medicine, which only drove my passion for Neurology even further. This specialty allows me to fulfill this interest in human culture, and it is, really, the final medical frontier. I was fortunate enough to be able to choose Neurology twice, once in Brazil, and now in the US.
