Message from Dr. Ganzel Regarding COVID-19 Response – March 18, 2020

Dear Faculty, Staff, Residents and Students,

The COVID-19 situation continues to evolve daily.

Many new recommendations and actions have been implemented since my message was distributed on Saturday (March 14, 2020).

Please check this site on a regular basis as we will  continue to post updates here as new information becomes available or as actions are recommended.

Please know your health and safety are of the highest importance to us and we are committed to keeping you informed and protected in this fluid environment, which may change daily.

Thank you for ALL that you continue to do to meet the needs of our School and University  during this time.

Take care of yourselves and your families.

Toni

New Information regarding UME Education is posted below. Other information will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

MEDICAL STUDENTS:

M1 and M2 students are finishing classes, including assessments, online.

M3-4 clinical students ( NEW DEVELOPMENTS AS OF TODAY March 18, 2020 )

I just received a communication today from the AAMC and LCME that,

EFFECTIVELY IMMEDIATELY, medical schools should pause all student clinical rotations until at least March 31.

This pause will allow the medical education community, including learners, to develop appropriate educational strategies and alternative clinical experiences to best assure safe, meaningful clinical learning for students. It will also help with current concerns about the availability of personal protective equipment.  We have communicated this to our students, clerkship directors, clinical chairs and faculty and hospital leaders.

Toni Ganzel, Dean
