Teachers invited to study U.S. founding debates

Kentucky teachers and educators are invited to participate in the McConnell Center's "Debating America," a year-long series examining how the Federalist Papers and Anti-Federalist perspectives resonate in today's political climate.

In monthly sessions over the course of one year (Sept. 2020 to Aug. 2021), members of the Teacher Scholars cohort will read and consider Reflection & Choice: The Federalists, the Anti-Federalists, and the Debate that Defined America, a new McConnell Center publication available in September. Related events include a virtual public lectures, webinars with content experts, a companion podcast series hosted by McConnell Center Director Gary Gregg, PhD, and a companion reading guide designed for teachers to easily add primary source materials and lessons into the classroom.

Participants Will Receive:

  • Summer 2021 culminating experience to celebrate project completion

Requirements of Participation:

  • Complete reading assignments & listen to each month's related podcast episode
  • Participate in 75% of webinar opportunities (details forthcoming)
  • Engage with monthly discussion prompts via email or discussion board
  • Provide one lesson plan based upon usage of the text to share with TSP cohort
