Whitlock interned for Ky. Sen. David Givens (R-Dist. 2) on Tuesdays and Thursdays, assisting with constituents concerns, conducting research and drafting a joint resolution.

"Seeing state government personally was something that I'll never forget," Whitlock said. "The opportunity has led me to consider a career in state government – something I had not considered beforehand."

The internship experience was coordinated by the University of Louisville's political science department.

"I enjoyed being able to serve constituents from my hometown and hear childhood stories about my father who grew up with Sen. Givens," Whitlock said. Both Givens and Whitock are from Greensburg, Ky., and Givens graduated from Green County High School with Ben's father, Adam.

Whitlock has been designated the student internship coordinator for the University of Louisville during the 2015 session of the Kentucky General Assembly.
