Brewer receives Russian critical language scholarship

Brewer receives Russian critical language scholarship

McConnell Scholar Paige Brewer ('15) has been accepted to the Critical Language Scholarship Program to develop her intermediate-level Russian language skills. Brewer will attend Lobachevsky State University in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, from June 11 to Aug. 13.

The program, fully funded by the U.S. State Department, covers one year of university-level coursework in eight weeks, with more than 20 hours of language instruction each week. Participants are selected based on their commitment to language learning and plans to apply their language skills to their future academic or professional pursuits.

Brewer, of Wilder, Ky., is studying political science, Russian studies and humanities at the University of Louisville. She is a university honors scholar and is president of the Russian Language and Culture Club. She will graduate in May.
