Planning Travel to and from Louisville, Kentucky

We ask that you arrive in Louisville and check into your room at the Galt House Hotel before 5 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28. You may book your return flight for anytime after 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27.

Flights to Louisville arrive at the Louisville International Airport, which is also known as Standiford Field (SDF).

Transportation from Louisville International Airport to hotel

Shuttle

  • The Galt House Hotel has arranged airport transportation with your reservation via Sandollar Limousine (must provide your flight information and details). Payment can be attached to room billing (approximate cost is $15 one-way per person or $25 round-trip person).
  • Arrange your departing trip at the transportation desk directly at 502-561-4022
  • Operation hours: 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.; will accommodate early or late arrivals

Taxi

  • If you have not arranged shuttle service with Sandollar Limo, you can hail a cab just outside of the terminal. This will cost approximately $20 to travel to the Galt House Hotel.
  • Please retain your receipt from ground transportation so that you can be reimbursed through DTS after the Seminar.

Driving a Personal Vehicle?

  • If authorized to drive a POV, your parking will paid for by program sponsors. Use the following GPS address: 140 N 4th St, Louisville, KY 40202

Day of Arrival: Monday, Aug. 28

McConnell Center representatives will be posted in the Galt House Lobby between 2-5:45 p.m. Please check in with us as you arrive.

If you plan to arrive before 2 p.m., please let us know. Go directly to the check-in desk; hopefully your room will be ready. You may check back with us at our welcome desk between 2-5:45 p.m., if you have any questions, problems, concerns or just want to introduce yourself.

The #SBS2017 cohort will gather at the SBS registration desk at 5:45 p.m. and will walk to our orientation session and dinner. Dress code for this evening is business casual.

About the Galt House & Amenities

  • Hotel suite (single occupancy)
  • TV, cable & internet provided
  • Coffeemaker, microwave and mini-refrigerator provided

  • Daily housekeeping service

Daily Transportation

  • Students will utilize mini-vans to and from the Galt House to the university or to alternate class locations. We will ask for 12 voluntary drivers for the mini-vans. Daily use of a POV will be on a "by-exception" basis.

Dress Code

  • Civilian clothes are appropriate for most sessions.
  • For the classroom setting, attire will be business casual (golf shirt/polo and khakis, summer dress, etc. – no jeans, no sneakers, no t-shirts).
  • You will have at least three occasions where military uniforms (Army Service Uniform) will be required for military personnel, while business attire (coat and tie) will be required for civilians.
  • You will also need to bring one set of military uniform ACUs.
  • Soldiers will be responsible for their own laundry services.

What to Bring

  • A laptop or tablet is required for each student. Internet access will be required for research projects, and some readings will also be made available for online study.
  • You will be issued a Strategic Broadening Seminar notebook, along with pencils and pens. You may use these resources or you may bring your own favorite paper and writing instrument. You should always attend classroom experiences with paper and pencil for note taking.
  • Taking classroom notes on a laptop is discouraged.

Personal Funds

  • The sponsor has paid for room, board and tuition costs associated with your participation in the Strategic Broadening Seminar.
  • You will be responsible for any extracurricular activities you decide to participate in while in Louisville, and there will be several optional cash bars available for those who wish to partake during structured social events.
  • Funding for participant board (meals) will be distributed on a pre-paid debit card for which you will be responsible.
