About Interlibrary Loan
Interlibrary Loan (ILL) is a service available to the students, staff, and faculty of the University of Louisville. A valid UofL Libraries' borrower card is required for ILLiad registration. Kornhauser Health Sciences Library also offers Interlibrary Loan services to members of the Louisville health services community, including physicians and other health practitioners, and the legal profession for a fee. The record of what you borrow is retained permanently within the ILLiad System.
ILL specializes in obtaining study and research materials needed by members of the UofL community that are not owned by the Libraries. We do this by borrowing items, or requesting photocopies of items located at other libraries around the world. We can obtain nearly anything that has been published, including books, journals, video and audio recordings, and microforms.
While we strive to obtain materials as quickly as possible, delivery time depends on the scarcity of the item and the institution lending the item. Kornhauser Health Sciences Library and Ekstrom Library pay up to $20.00 towards obtaining an item. For items above $20.00 the patron will be asked to pay the difference. RUSH requests are also available. See our policies page for details.
If you are a Kornhauser Health Sciences Library patron and wish to request an item from Ekstrom library, do this by submitting an ILLiad request and vice versa for an Ekstrom Library patron wishing to request from Kornhauser Health Sciences Library. We do not ship ILL items between the libraries located on the Belknap Campus.
