HSC Medical Education Grand Rounds: A Leader's Role in Addressing LGBT Health
12:00 PM - Kornhauser Auditorium
Presented by the LGBT Center, School of Medicine Office of Medical Education and HSC Office for Diversity and Inclusion
In this thought-provoking HSC Grand Rounds based on his work at the AAMC, Dr. John Davis will speak to how engaged leadership is a cornerstone of addressing diversity and inclusion because of their ability to view organizations from a macroscopic perspective and initiate and implement change. Leaders have the ability to hard-wire LGBT diversity and inclusion into education, patient care, faculty affairs, policies, and performance metrics. This session aims to empower leaders to ensure LGBT diversity and inclusion by (1) providing a clinically-relevant overview of LGBT health disparities and their cost to healthcare, (2) increase awareness of the current gaps in LGBT academic medicine, (3) highlight the role of leadership in successful LGBT initiatives, (4) outline easy wins for leadership to integrate and evaluate LGBT initiatives at their own institutions.
