Academic Fellows Application Available for 2018-19

Applications for Brandeis Academic Fellows are now open. If you are a current 1L and would like to mentor first-year students next year as an SSG Leader, please complete your application by Monday, April 30.

Did you benefit from your SSG this year?  Would you like to mentor the next group of incoming law students? If so, you should apply to the Academic Fellow Program.

The Academic Fellows Program offers second-year students an opportunity to share your insights and mentor new students as they take on their first year of law school.  The ideal candidate will be:

  • A positive and enthusiastic role model who was academically successful in his or her first year courses;
  • Available to meet weekly with assigned study groups, plan study group lessons and activities ahead of group meetings, and keep weekly office hours (typically about a 5-7 hour commitment during the fall semester);
  • Capable of leading assigned group in structured activities and delivering study skills workshops as well as facilitating unstructured conversations and answering student questions; and
  • Comfortable working closely with faculty and administrators in addressing student concerns and prepared to hold students accountable for attendance and other requirements of the program.

Academic Fellows are compensated for their time through the financial aid office.  A minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred, but exceptional candidates will be considered outside that range.  Interviews will be conducted May 4-9, but final decisions about hiring will not be made until Spring 2018 grades are available

Please see Angela Lechleiter (Room 212, angela.lechleiter@louisville.edu) with any questions.
