Kentucky Rural Energy Consortium (KREC) will Launch 2009 State-Wide Initiative in Frankfort

LOUISVILLE, Ky.--The Kentucky Rural Energy Consortium (KREC) will meet in Frankfort, Kentucky on March 12 to launch its 2009 state-wide initiative for advancing renewable energy and energy efficiency in Kentucky. KREC was established in 2005 by a federal direct appropriation and has been successful in building partnerships with government, industry, the public, and higher education and in providing more than $1.4 million in research grants to Kentucky universities. KREC is administered by KPPC - the Kentucky Pollution Prevention Center - at the J.B. Speed School of Engineering at the University of Louisville.

The KREC meeting, which will be held in the Frankfort Convention Center from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, is free and open to the public.

Speakers for the Frankfort meeting are Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Dr. Leonard K. Peters, Dr. Mahendra Sunkara from the University of Louisville, Brent Bailey from the National 25x'25 Alliance and Cam Metcalf, Executive Director of KPPC.

KREC's recently published 25x'25 Roadmap for Kentucky, and the Governor's 7-Part Energy Strategy will be topics for discussion. The meeting will also focus on the economic benefits of developing renewable energy in Kentucky and how the state could become a major producer and research center as the renewable energy industry grows.

Details and registration for the March 12 meeting can be found at www.kppc.org, or by calling KPPC at 502-852-0965.
