KREC and KPPC in the News

KREC and KPPC again made the news in the August 7 edition of Business First. The feature article highlighted KPPC's mission and its commitment to demonstrating and deploying energy efficiency and renewable energy projects. The article described an experimental solar heat pipe unit installed in Burhans Hall and a planned solar water heater installation at UofL's Shelby Campus. The heat pipe demonstration unit was a KREC-funded research project lead by UofL engineering professor Keith Sharp. The article also covered KREC's successful competitive grants program and included other KREC-funded researchers from the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky in the publication's Green Business supplement.

Dr. Gerold Willing and Dr. Keith Sharp, professors at the University of Louisville, and Dr. Michael Montross and Dr. Sue Nokes from the University of Kentucky, discussed their work in solar, biomass and cellulosic research. Dr. Nokes' project began with a 2007 seed grant from KREC which helped her secure additional funding -- $250,000 from Sun Grants and almost $1 million from the U.S. Department of Energy and the Department of Agriculture. So far, consortium-funded projects have secured an additional $3.25 million to continue their research. If you are a subscriber to Business First you can view an online version of the articles.
