Step 1 - Make the Commitment

Step OneThe first step of the energy management process establishes support from school district leadership (school board, superintendent, principal) and requires collaboration, communication and participation among key areas of the district including facilities, information technology, faculty, staff and students.

To establish an effective comprehensive Energy Management Program, school districts need to make a commitment to continual improvement by:

  1. Instituting a district-wide Board Approved Energy Policy to garner support from senior administration.
  2. Establishing a Cross-functional Energy Team to spearhead Energy Management Program initiatives.
  3. Developing a Communications Plan to raise awareness about the importance of best energy management practices throughout the school district.
  4. Becoming an ENERGY STAR® Partner to further demonstrate your school district's commitment to energy efficiency.
