Assess Performance and Opportunities
Assessing energy performance, both past and present, is essential to establishing a baseline of energy consumption and costs. This information provides a starting point with which to monitor and measure progress with energy efficiency efforts.
Evaluating the operational performance of major facilities and systems will serve to highlight many no-cost/low-cost energy efficiency opportunities, as well as draw attention to more cost-intensive long-term projects.
To assess energy performance and opportunities, an organization needs to:
- Gather and track energy consumption and costs
- Establish a baseline of consumption and costs
- Benchmark energy performance between facilities
- Analyze energy use patterns and trends
- Perform technical assessments and audits
Refer to the Energy Star Guidelines for Energy Management Overview for Step Two: Assess Performance for more information.
Step Two Resources
The following resources were developed and/or compiled by KPPC engineers and sustainability specialists. While most of the resources listed are available to use at no cost, there are some that do have an associated cost. Links to resources that have a cost are denoted with a dollar sign ($).
