Spring 2022 PhD Program News

Dr. Andy Frey leaving the Kent School

Dr. Frey’s has accepted a position at the University of Missouri! He will continue to support students, faculty and staff during this time of transition. We will still have Dr. Frey around until June 30th. Feel free to express thanks or congrats if you happen to see him in the halls. He’s been with UofL for 22 years and has done amazing work restructuring the PhD curriculum to coincide with the program and university goals, missions, and strategic priorities.

  

 

 


Congratulations!

Sultan Shubair successfully defended his dissertation titled, Determinants of Caregiver Burden among Informal Caregivers Looking After Older Adults with Alzheimer's Disease in Saudi Arabia! Sultan was mentored by his Chair, Dr. Tom Lawson and committee members –Drs. Stephanie Grace Prost (Cochair), Sharon Moore, and Mark Pfeifer (School of Medicine, University of Louisville). He will be working as an assistant professor in social work department at King Saud University (KSU) in Saudi Arabia.  Sultan also received a Dean’s Citation award. 

 

Kyee Young successfully defended her dissertation (Learning the Language of America: A Descriptive Phenomenological Study of Black Racial Conscientization)! Kyee was mentored by her Chair, Dr. Shawnise Miller and committee members –Drs. Lesley Harris, Adrian Archuleta, Armon Perry, and Shelley Thomas (College of Education and Human Development). She has recently taken a job position with the Graduate College of Social Work at the University of Houston as their Director for Inclusive Teaching and Learning.
