Graduate Student Appreciation Day

PHD and DSW students and faculty enjoyed lunch together at the Graduate Student Appreciation week lunch in Patterson Hall on November 11th. Thanks to everyone for coming out to attend!


Rebecka Bloomer successfully defended her dissertation (Exploring the promotion of youth voice and activism by youth development workers in community-based programs)! Rebecka was mentored by her Chair, Dr. Lesley Harris and committee members –Drs. Aishia Brown (Public Health), Tom Lawson, and Shantel Crosby. She will be moving on to a post-doc with the School of Public Health and Information Sciences at The Center for Social Justice Youth Development Research at the University of Louisville; Drs. Brown & Bloomer will be developing a Social Justice Youth Development education certificate program for youth development workers in Louisville. 

Rick Weaver successfully defended his dissertation.  The title of his dissertation is: The evaluation of risk and protective factors of substance use in the national association of intercollegiate athletics.

Rick was mentored by his Chair, Dr. Adrian Archuleta and committee members –Drs. Matt Moore (Ball State University), Shawnise Miller, and Armon Perry. Rick is seeking a tenure-track appointment.

New PhD Program Coordinator

Allysse Stokes assumed the role of PhD Program Coordinator in November. She was previously an academic advisor in the Student Success Center at Bellarmine University and brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to support our PhD students and faculty.
