Alumni Spotlight: Tyler Swim '12
Tyler Swim graduated from the Kent School of Social of Work in 2012. He is a LCSW and is currently employed by JCPS as a Mental Health Practitioner. Tyler feels like the social work profession chose him and says, “being born with Neurofibromatosis and having back surgery at age 8, I always felt a calling to a helping profession.” What he enjoys most about his current position is that he is promoting change and hope, working with children, and that no two days are ever the same.
The Kent School of Social Work helped Tyler find his love for the school social work setting thru various classes and practicum. Two of his favorite memories at Kent were his School Social Work class and practicum at St. Nicolas Academy. He says his two favorite professors were Dr. Becky Antle and Dr. Andy Frey. “I loved their research class and Dr. Frey’s involvement in school social work.”
When asked what advice he would give to current and prospective students, Tyler suggests that students should get involved in various ways, keep an open mind, and find their calling.
