Dr. Charles A Turner, Jr. is Director of the Field Education program and Assistant Professor of Practice in the Kent School of Social Work at the University of Louisville. Dr. Turner is a master level social worker with over 25 years’ experience in Family and Community Counseling and Services. Dr. Turner also has 20 plus years’ experience in social work education.

Dr. Turner’s scholarship focuses on police-community relations from the perspective of African Americans within African American communities in Louisville, Kentucky. The overall goal of Dr. Turner’s scholarship is to identify ways to improve relationships between the African American community and police who patrol their neighborhoods to reduce negative or deadly encounters with the African American Community in West Louisville, Kentucky.
