Perform skilled hand, bench and other carpentry duties including the operation of power-drive woodworking machinery.


Assist, supervise and work in the following areas:

Perform general carpentry work in the alteration, repair and maintenance of buildings, floors, roofs, stairways, partitions, doors, windows, screens, scaffolding, concrete forms, wood fixtures and furniture.

Repair tables, chairs, benches, counters and truck beds.  Repair mechanical doors and locks.

Build new buildings as assigned.

Perform some cabinetmaker work such as building bookcases, chests, lockers, cabinets and shelves.

Perform skilled bench work in a carpenter shop operating power saws, joiners, wood lathes, and planers; and boring, sanding and mortising machines.  Clean, sharpen and repair hand and bench tools.

Read and interpret schematic drawings and prints.  Make estimates on work related to carpentry.

Supervise assigned laborers and carpenters' helpers in carpentry work.

Oversee safety program in shops, including MSDS and use of power tools (including upkeep and repair of same).

Perform related duties as assigned


High school diploma. Completion of formal trades apprenticeship. Employment physical examination and police record check.  Valid driver's license and insurable by the University’s insurance carrier.


Four years of related experience, including supervision responsibility. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
