JOB SUMMARY

 

Perform a variety of complex duties involved in bibliographic verification, online cataloging and data input of library materials in various languages into the master computer database.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Review and edit, according to Library of Congress standard and local practice, printouts of bibliographic information created by OCLC member libraries.

Verify and edit, as required, call numbers and subject headings.

Edit catalog records on OCLC terminal to create the Library's permanent record in card and/or magnetic tape format.

Perform retrospective conversion of pre-1976 cataloging records to machine readable form using specially modified IBM-PC.

Use online transfer to transmit bibliographic records from the OCLC System to the Library's in-house automated circulation system.

Maintain statistical records of items cataloged for use in preparing HEGIS and other reports of Library holdings.

Supply call number information to Shelf Preparatory Section for labeling book spines.

Contribute to formulation of section policies and procedures.

Report errors in OCLC masterfile records for changes to the OCLC masterfile.

Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

 

Specialized training beyond high school.

EXPERIENCE

 

Two years of experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
