JOB SUMMARY

Responsibilities in two separate areas: 1) providing assistance in the Special Procedures Laboratory by receiving and processing specimens for a variety of procedures, and 2) performing various duties in Forensic Autopsy.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

Perform immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase techniques.

Perform muscle and nerve enzyme histochemistry procedures.

Microtomy and staining of paraffin plastic embedded tissues and embedding.

Logging, record keeping and filing of specimens.

Assist in performance of postmortem examinations.

Assist in preparation of cutting and processing brain tissue and preparing special stains for neuropathology.

Maintain Pathology Gross Laboratory.

Obtain fluid and tissues for toxicology, histology and serology and submit to laboratory for testing.

Clean autopsy tables and instruments, clean bodies and release to funeral directors.

Maintain all dissection equipment, order replacement equipment, parts and materials.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

Bachelor's degree in Biology, Chemistry or related field.

EXPERIENCE

Two years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
