Job Summary

 

Perform and supervise a variety of special procedures, such as enzyme histochemistry, immunofluorescence, immunoperoxidase, and plastic embedding of human and animal tissue.

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Perform immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase procedures using a variety of standard and non-standard procedures.

Perform muscle enzyme histochemistry or fresh muscle biopsies; specimen processing, embedding, ultra-thin sectioning and staining of human tissues; in situ hybridization, etc.

Procure specimens for quality control standards, interpret staining reactions.

Coordinate work flow and supervise lab personnel and those on rotational assignment.

Write and maintain departmental procedures manuals.

Investigate, evaluate, recommend, and request equipment, reagents, supplies, antigens, and antibodies.

Serve as instructor on technique, theory, and application of procedures used in the Lab.

Maintain quality assurance, assessment and control in the Lab.

Perform related duties as directed.

Knowledge, Training and Skills

 

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biological Sciences, Medical Technology, Histotechnology, or related field. American Society of Clinical Pathologist (ASCP) for Histologic Technique (HT) and Histotechnologist (HTL) Certification.

Experience

 

Six years of experience in histotechnology procedures. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
