Job Summary

Advise and monitor the use of radioactive materials and radiation-producing machines for all University facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities

Oversee and perform supervisory inspections of research, clinical, and teaching facilities involved in the use of radiation sources to establish compliance with university, state, federal, and other rules and regulations.

Respond to radiation hazards and emergencies (real or suspected).

Provide data utilized in computerized records system of the unit.

Assist in disposal of radioactive waste and in maintenance of the total waste management system.

Oversee maintenance and calibration of health physics instrumentation used to measure ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

Teach and train personnel in safe and proper use of radioactive materials.

Perform other special projects as directed.

Knowledge, Training and Skills

Bachelor's degree in Health Physics or related area. Eligibility for certification in Health Physics by the American Board of Health Physics.

An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.

Experience

Three years of related experience.
