JOB SUMMARY

Develop, conduct and supervise all aspects of peri- and post-operative care of animals used in research, including training, data acquisition and analysis.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILTIES

Conduct and/or supervise surgery, post-op recovery, wound care of chronic large animal model, including but not limited to cardiac catheterization, administration of drugs, fluoroscopy/related imaging techniques, ongoing monitoring and documentation of all such activities in accordance with Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) standards.

Maintain primary laboratory expertise in above areas. Train and supervise medical support staff in these areas. Coordinate hiring and scheduling of support staff for continuous 24-hour monitoring of chronic studies.

Develop, conduct and supervise experiment support documentation, transesophagel echo imaging and analysis, sensor calibration and signal conditioning, data acquisition, beat-to-beat hemodynamic data analysis, and data reduction techniques for hemodynamic measurements in chronic large animal models in accordance with GLP standards.

Identify needs and maintain inventory of medical equipment and supplies in accordance with GLP standards.

Assist investigators with analysis, interpretation and preparation of experimentally obtained hemodynamic data for publication in peer-reviewed journals. Write technical reports and manuscripts for presentation at scientific meetings and publication in peer-reviewed journals in accordance with GLP standards.

KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING & SKILLS

Bachelor's degree in animal technology or related field. Accreditation as a Laboratory Animal Technologist AALAS certification.

EXPERIENCE

Five years of related experience. An equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience may be substituted for the requirements noted.
