Job Summary

Manage and direct all aspects of special professional education and health career programs for the Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing and Allied Health.

Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and manage the Federal Area Health Education Center (AHEC) program in Kentucky by maintaining and increasing annual funding level, negotiating contracts with universities and community organizations, managing expenditures and reporting to the Federal Funding Agency, and overseeing offices in six rural Kentucky locations.

Serve as Kentucky liaison with Federal AHEC Office, National Organization of AHEC Programs, Congressional staff members who review AHEC, and the Counsel of Higher Education.

Manage the Kentucky Area Health Education System Program at the Health Secince Center; plan and report on the extramural activities of this program.

Direct the Professional Education Preparation Program (PEPP) at the Medical and Dental Schools which relates to the recruitment of rural and minority high school and undergraduate students throughout Kentucky.

Develop and manage the Health Career Opportunities Program (HCOP) at the Health Sciences Center, including contract negotiations with the University of Kentucky and development of the federal grant.

Direct minority activities for the Dean's Office of the School of Medicine.

Coordinate Affirmative Action at the Medical School and the implementation of the OCR Agreement involving KSU and UK.

Manage the Medical Educational Development Program for "high risk" students.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Training and Skills

Master's Degree in a related field.


Seven years of related experience.
