Applying for Housing is a Two-Step Process

1. Completing the Housing Application

The first step in applying for housing is completing the Fall 2021-Spring 2022 Housing Application by selecting the red "Apply for Housing" button on our homepage. You will be able to accomplish several tasks as part of the housing application, and here are just a few:

  • If you are new to Campus Housing, you will be able to create a Housing Profile. You will be able to specify both your personal email and university email addresses. Please ensure that these emails are up-to-date and free of typos, as all application-related confirmation emails such as confirmation of submission and payment as well as a copy of any electronically signed forms such as the license agreement will be sent to the emails you specify. Emails related to re-setting your password will always be sent to the email you indicate as your personal email.
  • Review our Cancellation Policy, First-Year Live-On Policy, Second-Year Residential Requirement, and other policies here in Campus Housing. Prior to signing each policy, we highly encourage you to read over them thoroughly and reach out to us at with any questions you may have. 
  • Complete the non-refundable, one-time application payment if this is your first time completing a housing application with us.
  • Obtain a co-signature from a parent or legal guardian if you are under the age of 18 at the time of completing the application. In this case, an email containing a co-signature link will be sent to the email address listed as your "Parent/Legal Guardian Email Address" on your Housing Profile, so be sure to provide a working and accessible email.

2. Participating in Room Selection

After you have applied for housing, we encourage you to check out each of our "Hall Snapshots" to learn about room types, amenities, and communities in each hall. Take a virtual tour on each hall page, or schedule an on-campus tour (please note, due to UofL COVID protocols we are not accepting individual tour requests at this time) with one of our student office assistants! 

Room Selection will take place in  Spring 2021, and your room selection date/time will depend on how soon you submit the Housing Application. The earlier you apply for housing, the sooner you will be able to select your hall and room during the room selection period designated for first-year students.

Returning Residents

Returning residents who select on the Housing Application that they want to stay in the same room (a process referred to as “Room Retention”) will be notified  regarding whether or not their space is available for room retention. Please be aware that not all bedspaces are available for room retention. The deadline for selecting that you would like to participate in Room Retention to keep your same space is Friday January 29 at 3 PM. 

  • If your space is not available, you should plan on participating in returner room selection.


Incoming First-Year Students

Housing Application Available 

Optional: You may apply for a Living-Learning (LLC) or Themed (TC) Community on the housing application or you may choose to apply separately on the LLC/TC Application. Applying for an LLC/TC is highly encouraged but not required.

Jan. 19

Room Selection for LLC/TC Members

All housing applicants accepted into an LLC or TC will be able to select a space in their LLC or TC.

Mar. 1

Priority Deadline

All students who apply by this date will receive a room selection date/time for Priority Room Selection, which begins on June 1.

April 1

Room Selection for Unitas, Bettie, UTA

Unitas, Bettie, and UTA will be available for room selection by any student who applies for housing by April 1. 

April 15

Priority Room Selection 

All students who apply for housing by the April 1st Priority Deadline will be able to select a room beginning on the priority room selection date/time sent to their university email account. These dates/times will begin on June 1. 

June 1

General Room Selection 

Students who apply after the priority deadline of April 1 will now be able to select a space by logging into the Housing Portal beginning at 10:00 a.m. as long as it has been one full business day since completing the housing application.

June 8

All Room Selection Ends

Note: If you applied for housing and did not select a space during room selection, you will automatically receive a room assignment to your university email. 

June 30

Room Changes and Swaps Available

**Room changes and swaps will be unavailable beginning May 31 and will re-open on June 9 at 10:00 a.m.**

Upper-Level Applicants

Description Date(s)

Housing Application Available

Current residents can indicate on the application that they are interested in "Room Retention" if they would like to keep their current space. Those who apply by Jan. 29th at 3:00 p.m. and have spaces available will be able to return to the Housing Portal beginning Feb. 1 for "Room Retention." Those whose spaces are not available and those who would like to choose a new space may plan on participating in "Room Selection".

Living-Learning and Themed Community Application Available Jan. 19

Room Retention

Current residents who completed the housing application and indicated interest in room retention by Jan. 29th at 3:00 p.m. may return to the Housing Portal to lock in their current space.
