MLK Scholars Program Structure

A description of the programmatic structure for the University of Louisville Martin Luther King Scholars.

All classes will fulfill either programmatic, supporting, or elective requirements and should not interfere with student's academic major requirements.

Year One

Fall

  • HON 101 - Honors First-Year Seminar
  • HON 202 - Windows on the World
  • Honors Service Living Learning Community (LLC) General Education Course
  • Service Project through the Honors Service LLC

Spring

  • HON 202 - Windows on the World
  • Honors Service LLC Course
  • Continued Service Project through the Honors Service LLC

Year Two

Fall

  • PEAC 325 - Peace, Justice, Conflict, Transformation (PCJT)*
  • Yearlong Independent Service Project

Spring

  • SCHG 399 - Lectures in Social Change**
  • Civil Rights Immersion Experience - Tour of Historical Sites in Alabama and Tennesse
  • Continued Yearlong Independent Service Project

Year Three

Fall

  • Elect to complete the requirements for either the PJCT Certificate or Social Change Minor
  • PJCT course or Social Change course
  • Social Change course

Spring

  • SCHG 399 - Lectures in Social Change**

Year Four

Fall

  • Social Change Course

Spring

  • SCHG 401 (Social Change Internship) or PEAC 550 (PJCT Capstone)

 

* Engineering students can participate in the program and will work with an Honors adivsor to meet Engineering and academic requirements.
**While required, students many take SCHG 399 in a different in either their second or third year depending on schedule.
