Fall 2023 Graduate Student Appreciation Week

Monday, November 6-Friday, November 10

The Graduate Student Appreciation Week gives us an opportunity to recognize and celebrate graduate students while supporting their continued success. Whether it be by hosting coffee breaks or lunches, sharing snacks or tokens of appreciation, all offices and departments on both the Belknap and HSC campuses are welcome to participate in the week's festivities. 

Share a GRADitude!

We invite all members of the UofL Community to recognize a UofL Graduate Student with #UofLGRADitude! Simply complete this form to share a PERSONALIZED few words of celebration, recognition, or encouragement with a graduate student, and we’ll send them a virtual postcard! A few messages will also be selected and shared across our social media channels for the week! 


Announcing the Fall 2023 Graduate Student Appreciation Week Calendar!

ALL WEEK:

  • Join the Graduate School for ~ Let’s Get Social~ Each day, we’ll ask a question on our social media, respond with a comment for a chance to win a prize!
  • Complete the Graduate School’s ~5 hours of movement~ challenge to win some UofL Graduate School SWAG! *Scroll down to learn more.
  • Throughout the week, the CEHD Graduate Student Success office will offer hot chocolate and cider, as well as some small snacks. CEHD graduate students should stop by and pick up a bag of popcorn during the week or snacks.
  • Throughout the week, the Sociology Office will have baked goods and cider for Sociology Students evening before class in the Department kitchen (Monday-Thursday).
  • To Law Students With Love: Breakfast Treats, The law school will provide breakfast treats for law students from 8:30 a.m.-11 a.m. Monday through Friday in the Mosaic Lobby.
  • Appreciation Gift Bags for Graduate Students: The School of Music Graduate students will receive a gift bag with a note of appreciation, a UL School of Music Mug, and some other goodies.
  • The Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences will provide grab-n-go snacks in the Psychology Lounge for all Clinical Psychology and Experimental Psychology graduate students. Everyone who participates in the Graduate School’s events will be entered into a drawing EACH DAY for a chance to win a BIG prize!
  • History MA and Certificate program students can enter to win a free 1-year student membership to the American Historical Association. Raffle tickets will be available throughout the week in the History Department's main office; entries must be received by noon on Friday, November 10.

*** Prizes include: Wireless earbuds, a Keurig, presentation remote, Amazon Echo Dot, herb growing kit, coffee warmer, cozy blanket, books, and more!

Snacks and refreshments for Humanities graduate students and MFA students will be offered at the “Slavin Library Art Reception” from 12-1pm inBingham 213.

 

The School of Nursing invites SON PhD students to the SON PhD Student Appreciation Luncheon from 12-1pm in the SON, 4th fl. Common area.

 

All Health Management and System Sciences graduate students can enjoy sodas and snacks on “Monday Munchies” sponsored by the Department of Health Management and System Sciences at 485 E. Gray Street, Lobby area outside of room 103 from 12-5pm.

 

The GSC invites all graduate students to join us on Monday, November 6th from 4-6pm at the West Plaza (located in front of the Red Barn) for pumpkin carving and painting!

All graduate students are invited to join the Graduate School Deans for "Coffee with the Deans" from 9am-10:30am in Houchens 105. All attendees will be entered to win a prize! Free coffee & donuts while available.

All graduate students should stop by the Research Assistance Office on the first floor of Ekstrom Library from 11am-1pm for free snacks and an opportunity to chat with research librarians. We'd love to learn more about your research interests and share information about how library services and resources can assist you.

SPHIS graduate students are invited to enjoy Taco Tuesday in the SPHIS basement kitchen from 1-4pm. Sponsored by SPHIS SGA.

The Department of Mathematics is offering a pizza lunch for math graduate students on Tuesday, November 7 from 11:30am-1:30pm in the Natural Sciences Building, Room 334. Faculty and staff are also welcome to stop by and visit with students.

The Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology will hold a luncheon in honor of Pharmacology and Toxicology graduate students to celebrate Graduate Student Appreciation Week from 12-1pm, at the CTR101.

All graduate students can "Pop in for Popcorn" at the Graduate School Office (Houchens 105) for some specialty popcorn and a drink from 1-4pm. All attendees will be entered to win a prize! 

One of our favorite events of the year: (Virtual) Pet (& Kid) Cafe! You (all graduate students), your animal friends, and your kids are invited to "tune in" for some casual conversation between 6:30pm and 7:45pm. Introduce yourselves, your pets, and your kiddos to other Grad School families! Register here to get the link. All SOM graduate students are invited to stop by for HSC Coffee & Community, Part 1, from 9-10:30am in the 3rd floor Research Tower, hosted by HSC Office Of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies and the Graduate School. Grab a coffee or donuts and chat with staff and other graduate students. 

The History Department invites History MA and Certificate students to drop by for free cider and donuts from 10am-12pm in the Gottschalk Hall suite 103.

Dept. of Communication will host an event to show appreciation to all students, especially COMM undergraduate and graduate students while advertising spring courses and graduate programs in the area in front of Strickler Hall, facing Davison Hall from 10:30am-12:30pm.

The English Department will have coffee, cider, pies, and other snacks for English graduate students from 11am-2pm in Bingham 315.

All SPHIS graduate students can get yourself a widget to fidget, in the SPHIS front lobby from 3 - 5 pm. Sponsored by the Department of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences.

The CEHD Dean will host a "Pizza with the Dean" event for CEHD graduate students, from 4-5:30pm in the CEHD Graduate Student Success office (CEHD 123).

All HSC graduate students are invited to stop by for HSC Coffee & Community, Part 2, from 9-10:30am in the Clinical Translational Research (CTR) Building, Room 125. Grad a coffee, hot chocolate, or breakfast snack and chat with Graduate School staff and other graduate students. 

HSS graduate students are invited for free coffee, hot chocolate, and donuts in the HSS Department Suite from 9-11:30am.

SPHIS graduate students are welcome to join the Office of Student Services for cookies in Thursday Treats, from 11am-2pm in the SPHIS basement kitchen! Sponsored by the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health.

All international graduate students are invited to attend our International Graduate Student Social, from 3-4:30pm in Shumaker Research Building, Room 139. Grab a small plate from Ramsi's Cafe and spend some time with Graduate School staff and other graduate students. 

The HSC Office Of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies will have pizza and other goodies on the 3rd floor of the Research Tower for all SOM Graduate students!

All SPHIS graduate students Join the Office of Student Services in “Finally Friday - Pizza Day” for Pizza in the SPHIS basement kitchen from 4-6pm. Pizza provided by SPHIS SGA.



5 Hours of Movement Challenge

Time to get moving! Join the graduate student community in balancing all that focused research and writing work with some movement and/or outdoor time. Complete five hours of walking* between Monday, November 6 and Friday, November 10 to win some UofL Graduate School SWAG and be entered into a drawing for a big prize!Step 1: Register here. Step 2: After you register, you’ll be sent a link to track your hours.Step 3: Track your hours daily, every other day, or by Friday at 11:59 p.m. OR You can post a picture to Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram and TAG us @UofLGradSchoolStep 4: After you complete 5 hours, you’ll win some swag – simple!*Walking = walking, jogging, skipping, dancing, yoga, meditation, etc. Really, the focus is on providing some physical balance to all that brain work and we trust you.
