Success is a series of small thingsWhat does it take to be successful in college? That question is answered both inside and outside the classroom, as you take advantage of the many resources and opportunities UofL has to offer.

The SSC Success Series offers a wide variety of meetups, events and workshops to help you connect with other students, add to your student success toolbox, and possibly win some prizes along the way.

Aug. 27 - 30: "Two Weeks In" Social Media Contest
Share a pic that represents some part of your first two weeks as a UofL student. It could be your favorite study setup, social distancing activity, memory from Welcome Week, best self-care strategy... The possibilities are endless.  Provide a caption or title for your image, use #twoweeksin, and tag the Student Success Center (@UofLSuccess) on Instagram or Twitter. Winner gets to choose an Awesome Award Option from the uofl.me/championschest and runners up win a UofL swag bag.

August 28 (2 - 2:45pm): First-generation Student Welcome & Panel
As a first gen student you have what it takes to succeed, but sometimes financial, family, academic or work pressures can make the first gen student experience particularly challenging. Hear from first-gen current students, a recent UofL first-gen graduate, and UofL first-gen staff on their experiences and advice as you start at UofL. One lucky participant will win their choice of a JBL Flip 4 Waterproof Bluetooth Speaker OR a Bear Butt Hammock with Straps and a wireless speaker. Join via this Teams link.

September 1 (12 - 12:45pm): REFIT
Beginner-level, total-body cardio workout that leaves you smiling. Weaves dance moves for everybody & body type with positive music & heart work. September 1 (6 - 7:30pm): Exploring Our Diverse Community
Participants will explore topics surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion, and privilege through an interactive activity. This activity will encourage you to reflect on both your own and your peers' past experiences through an activity that is both anonymous and informative. Hosted by Ashleigh Hazley, Assistant Director in the Muhammad Ali Institute. Winner gets to choose an Awesome Award Option from the uofl.me/championschest  Join via this Teams link.

September 2 (5:15 - 6pm): REFIT

September 17 (6 - 7pm): Forget about Networking. Relationships Are the Real Key!
How many times have you been told that you need to “network” more?  That mere suggestion makes many introverts shudder in horror. When professionals discuss networking, the intent is building relationships, not just making a quick connection. Relationships vs "networking" is what will make a difference to your time at UofL, your professional career and honestly, your life.  Networking implies just meeting people in case you need them in the future.  Nurturing real relationships is critical and takes more time but will be mutually beneficial. Attend to learn some simple tips on meeting people and building lasting relationships with them that will be helpful to both parties. One lucky participant will win their choice of an Awesome Award from the uofl.me/championschest.

September 23 (11am - 1pm): Majors Fair
Looking for a major? A minor? Want to switch majors? Then you're in the right spot. Attend the Majors Fair to meet faculty, advisors, and students from your area of interest and learn more about their programs and experiences. The virtual event will be held within EngageUofL. September 24 (1:30 - 2pm): Flash Nap Workshop (in person & virtual)
Join via Teams or head to the SAC South Plaza
Lacking sleep? Don’t have time for a nap? Learn how to nap for 5 minutes and rejuvenate yourself in minutes using concepts from the latest in sleep science. All participants attending in person receive a free sleep mask and earplugs for the workshop, and virtual participants can receive these by stopping by Health Promotion (SAC W309). One participant will be randomly selected to win an Awesome Award from the Champion's Chest. 

October 1 - 6: Cardinal Clues "Where at UofL" Scavenger Hunt
Looking for something fun to do during Fall Break? Test your observation skills by identifying where on campus the close-up image is located. Prizes for winners of the game and of pop-up missions, donated by Commonwealth Credit Union. To play, download the GooseChase app. Search for event name: Cardinal Clues: "Where at UofL" Edition, then enter the pass code UOFL. The game will be open from 12pm on Oct. 1 until 7pm on Oct. 6.

October 8, 15, 22 & 29 (4 - 5pm): Mindfulness Series - Koru Basics

Looking to reduce stress and anxiety, increase concentration or improve your resilience? Koru Mindfulness® is an evidence-based curriculum specifically designed for teaching mindfulness, meditation, & stress management to 18-26 year olds and beyond. Koru Basics is a 4-session course that teaches participants how to ‘build their mindfulness muscle’ through daily practice of a variety of meditations & techniques. Must be available to attend all 4 sessions. At least one student who completes the series will win a Waterglider Meditation Cushion. 

October 16 (1 - 2pm): Budgeting 101
In college, you have the opportunity to learn a lot more than just what’s taught in class. With new people, new places and new activities, there’s a lot to do and a lot to experience. Through it all, you must learn to balance freedom and responsibility. Discover the basics of budgeting, credit and identity theft to help keep your life in balance while you’re in school. Oct. 19 - 25: "Ten Weeks In" Social Media Contest

Oct. 21 (7 - 8pm): BINGO Night & Costume Contest
Make new friends and win fantastic prizes during this monthly virtual BINGO series. At 6:30, we'll start with a costume contest: winner for best UofL-themed costume. BINGO begins at 7. October's BINGO recognizes Homecoming and Raise Some L, as the SSC raises funds for the SSC's Student Persistence Grants. FREE, as usual, for UofL students. October 29 (6 - 7pm): Writing Your Freshman Resume
This workshop will help first year students transition to writing a college-level resume.  In this virtual webinar you'll learn how to tailor your college-level resume for a part-time job, for a leadership position on campus, for a scholarship opportunity, or for a future internship opportunity.
