Dependent Student Request for Additional Direct Unsubsidized Loan As a Result of Parent’s Inability to Borrow PLUS Due to Adverse Credit History

Dependent students whose parent(s) are unable to borrow PLUS Loans due to adverse credit or other exceptional circumstances may be considered for additional Unsubsidized Direct Loan funds in the same amount as an independent undergraduate student.

Do not submit this form until after your parent(s) has been declined a Direct PLUS Loan as a result of completing the PLUS request at Studentaid.gov.

My parent was declined a Direct PLUS Loan for the current academic period of enrollment (i.e. Fall 2022-Spring 2023 and Summer 2022). Please consider my request for an additional unsubsidized loan. I understand I must meet all federal eligibility guidelines. I understand I cannot receive federal student loans in excess of the published loan limits, both annual and lifetime, based on my career and grade level. I also understand my obligation to repay my student loans.

By submitting this request, you are confirming your summer registration is complete. In addition, your parent must have submitted a PLUS Loan Request at StudentAid.gov for the 2021-2022 award year with a loan period of 05/2022-08/2022. Your request for additional unsubsidized loan funds will be reviewed once your eligibility for other federal financial aid has been evaluated for the summer term. Please familiarize yourself with UofL's summer application procedures and other important information at louisville.edu/financial-aid/summer-financial-aid. To allow adequate processing time, this request should be submitted at least 10 days prior to the end of loan period being requested. Additional unsubsidized funds cannot be processed for an academic period of enrollment if it is past the end of the loan period.
