Bridges to the Future Transitional Care Program: Social Services

Kanetha Dorsey, MSSW CSW Social Service Clinician, KY Cabinet for Health and Family Services, Commission for Children with Special Healthcare Needs

The webinar will discuss options and ideas for assistance for those with disabilities who are transitioning into adulthood. Some agencies will be discussed that may be able to assist with care and other services such as working and financial assistance. Information will be provided for both Kentucky and Indiana.

This webinar presentation provides a review of why coaching families is critical to optimizing child outcomes, an overview of principles associated with coaching are examined and case examples of how to apply these principles for coaching infants and toddlers in natural environments are given. This webinar will review the recent DSM-5 changes to the diagnosis of autism. Pertinent literature that reviews the DSM-IV and DSM-5 will be discussed. In addition, the strengths and weaknesses of the new criteria will be reviewed.

Newman This webinar will offer an 'inclusion tool box' for churches and faith communities for children and youth with autism spectrum disorder. This is a basket of ideas in making accommodations and modifications to worship settings, transitions, new environments, and equipping peers to receive that individual. Newman calls these ideas 'communicating without opening your mouth' as they are based on strategies not dependent on lots of language abilities.
